Before you get a dog remember that a typical lease is one year and a typical dog lives 10+ years. Every time you move you'll have to spent weeks in advance looking for a place that will accept your dog or you'll have to give the dog up.
Renters insurance that covers your dog, obedience class certificates and letters of recommendation from trainers and your vet help. So does having a dog that is CGC certified, a therapy dog and/or temperament tested by ATTS.
