My personal experience is that the vast majority of dogs that smell like "dog" is because if what they are eating. Bathing more doesn't really help - espcially for a dog that tends towards dry skin.
My white dog gets bathed more - simply because she can look dirty. I do brush them before we stay at a hotel or friend's house but I honestly can't remember the last time I bathed my lurcher.
Better food and adding both Fish Body Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar (Bragg's or another unfiltered brand) will help tremendously.
