Jasmine lays down in the backseat normally. Riding in the backseat behind the passenger seat only was the first thing I taught her when we got her at 8 weeks old. I had a 4 door car at the time and her crate wouldn't fit in it without some serious maneuvering. I just tied her leash to something solid, with enough slack to shift positions, but not enough to come up front or wander around. She got used to that, and now jumps right in and curls up, snoring in 5 minutes.
