I have no idea what to do here....
A really sad (and disturbing) thing going on near me. Someone I know (I will omit certain information), has a litter of 6 puppies from the dog she loves.... and the dog she doesn't like, had a litter of 7 puppies under the house, which is not insulated and open to the cold night air. Anyway, she called to tell me that the "other dog" came up missing, and she had to dig the pups out from under the house. One died, and she is having to bottle feed the 6, but instead of bottle feeding, she is syringe feeding them kitten milk.
She couldn't get her other dog to take them on to nurse, but she refused. I went over to take her some newspapers to line the cage, and the "liked" dog jumped up on the couch. I started petting and sweet talking her, and slowly put a puppy up to her over filled nipples. The pup started nursing immediately, and I slowly added another then another pup, until I had all 6 pups nursing of her. She laid down and started snoring, LOL. She is going to call the Humane Society to see if she can take them over there because it's so much trouble taking care of them and feeding them. I told her they should start eating soft food in about a week (they are 3 weeks now), but she insists on getting rid of them to the HS.
I offered to see if I could get her some low cost spay/neuter gift certificates, but she wasn't interested. She didn't say no, but I could tell, she wasn't interested at all in getting her dogs fixed, because she has "pure bred" Boston Terriers and she can sell those pups for good money, but the other dogs pups are Lab mix. They are cute pups, but mutts... probably not far behind the BT's, who I am sure haven't earned the right to be bred.
There is really not a lot I can do at this point, other than be completely ticked off because she seems to just not care about the fact that she is putting more dogs out there. I told her that foster homes are full up because there are way more dogs than there are homes for them... it didn't seem to register.
I get so frustrated with people who seem oblivious to the over population of dogs in our area.... and they just keep adding to the problem. This is not her first litter of BT's, and she has 2 females, so both of them have had previous litters. Now she thinks her Lab that is tied up outside is pregnant because she came in heat and her male pit bull got off his chain to get to her because, wouldn't you know it, he's not neutered. That will be yet another litter of puppies, 3 litters of puppies in less than six months from this one person alone.
It just really drives me nuts, yet I cannot get through to her or get her to realize that these cute little puppies will end up at shelters just like all the other puppies that someone thought was adorable, until they started peeing on the carpet, or chewing on shoes, or ripping up the carpet or who knows what else.... like most puppies that end up at shelters because they outgrew their cuteness.
They are Lab mutts, she said the mother of the lab was a pit bull,... but the mother of the pups looked like a Lab to me. She would never let me touch her but she was small.. well, maybe 50 lbs, all her dogs are underfed, so I'm not sure how much she weighed... I'd say 40-60 lbs... adorable pups, 2 black, 2 chocolates, and and 2 chocolate spotted.... all females. Sometimes humans really drive me bonkers!
