YAY for saving the puppies! I have no practical advice on how to care for them. I have no experience there...but I'm glad you got them. I also seriously doubt you can do anything more with the woman you took them from. We can cross our fingers and hope she learned a lesson from this, but odds are good she didn't.
I can guarantee you she learned NOTHING from it. This isn't her first litter of mutt pups, and it won't be her last. She thinks her other Lab that is chained up is pregnant. She came in heat and her sons (beautiful) pit bull who is unaltered, broke his chain to get to her. I spent $20 on swivel hooks and heavy duty clamps for his chain (all 6 feet of it that he has), and didn't ask her to reimburse me because I know she doesn't have the money. I just wanted him to not get his chain kinked up and have at least a little room to move.

When she was on vacation this summer, I went over with bleach and cleaned all of her dogs green water buckets so they had actual FRESH water... they are green again. She is smart, has some kind of medical degree... but common sense, she has none. She's very poor, way too poor to have as many dogs as she has.... 13, if you don't count the 6 puppies I took, and the mother that came up missing.. that would make 20 dogs total before the mother came up missing and I took the puppies off her hands. Plus she had 2 pet rabbits, that one of the dogs got and killed this past week. I think it was the now missing mama dog that got the rabbits... (which makes me wonder if that dog actually came up missing or not), and about 3 cats that I know of, maybe more.

Oh, and she has a horse that someone GAVE her (probably because they couldn't afford it, not that she can). When I went over to feed them while she was out of town, I took pictures of the horse. I know nothing about horses, my late sister was the horse expert, but I knew enough to know that horse was WAY under weight. I said something to her about it, she blamed it on the previous owner (which could have been true, I have no idea). But now, the horse looks a little better, she just has no shelter or stall.

Anyway, I have talked to her till I am blue in the face, and it never does any good. I'm way out in the country, so we have few neighbors, and I don't want to make any enemies.... we already have one enemy as it is, simply because the new people that moved in had a 17 yr old grandson living with them (bad situation with mom and dad, but dad lives with them now too). Anyway, grand dad died this past March from cancer, and grand mom is very mean to the kid (I have witnessed it). Dad stays drunk and can't keep a job (I know all this because the 17 yr old told me ). Anyway, he was helping me with my garden this past spring, tilled it up and helped me get it ready to plant... he fixed my wheel barrel and also cut up a tree that had fallen and hauled it to the woods for me. I paid the kid $100 for helping me because I had planned for him to help me all summer. I would have been paying him a little more as the summer went on, but that money was to get started and all. Grand mom threw a fit because I paid him that much. They had a knock down drag out fight 2 days later over something, and grand mom and dad told him to get out and never come back. This was at 10pm. They locked him out of the house, so he comes over and asks us if he can sleep in the truck outside. This was like June, and it was way too hot for him to sleep outside, so I let him come in and sleep in Meagan's room because she was out of town that weekend. They ended up calling the Sheriff and a big stink ensued. The guy from the sheriff dept met with us and told us there was a lot of problems in that house and we did the right thing by letting him come inside. End result, they hate us and won't let the boy even wave at us if he is outside.

Soooo.... I don't want to make another enemy with this girl across the road. She offered me a Boston Terrier pup for my troubles of feeding/watering them, and I told her I had more than I could afford to feed as it was (hint, hint!!). She plans to sell the pups, and I am sure one of the 2 females will be pregnant again before summer.

Now she may have another dog that is pregnant, the Lab. I have given her the gift certificates to fill out and send in to get her dogs spayed/neutered for $25 each. That's a good deal because around here it cost anywhere from $125-$150 or more to spay a dog. She never used them. My only option is to tell her I will pay to have each of her dogs spayed and take them/pick them up. I don't know if she will let me, and she for sure won't let me take the Lab for a spay/abort if she is pregnant.

I try to stay friendly, but not too friendly. I try to help her, give her tips and ideas and tell her things to do, like pumpkin when one of her dogs was sick. I even gave her a large can of pumpkin and told her how to feed it to them.... I doubt she ever did. She had a female pit bull with diarrhea that she couldn't afford to take to the vet, and then the dog was gone, so I don't know what happened to her.

I don't want to cut off that connection, because I feel like I can help her. God knows what would have happened to those pups if I hadn't been able to get them. She would just give them away to whoever would take them, or worse, keep them and let them breed.

Anyway, the pups are off to Middle TN. The girl from transport picked them up this afternoon and they are off to a much better future than they could have faced. I just hope and pray one day I will be able to get through to her and get her to spay her dang dogs.... but some how, I doubt that is going to happen.
