My mom was thrilled. She had APBTs when she was younger.

My dad...not so much. I was raised to hate "pit bulls" and my dad would get so mad because no matter how many stories he told me of how vicious these dogs were, I still loved them when I was a kid. When I saw them out I would always say I wanted one. So when I got older and could actually have one I said nothing. I adopted the dog without telling him, brought it over and told him it was an Amstaf (and of course he had no idea what the hell that was), and he wrestled with it for an hour. He didn't have a bad thing to say about the dog--in fact, he fell in love with him. I threw the word "pit bull" in a few days later and he whined for about 2 minutes and then got over it.

Most of my family hasn't met my dog because they are afraid to and I really don't care. I educate them on the breed but I'm not going to force them to snuggle with him...their loss. Maybe one day they will have the experience my dad had.
