i used to let my dogs do that, too.. let them choose when and how to correct each other. However, I have changed my way of thinking. The way i thought it out, I'm their leader, so I tell them when enough is enough, and I don't let them get that far. If I see a dog going towards another dog chewing on a bone, I'm there first to correct the one approaching. It has worked pretty well, and though it is hard to change everything completely, it has been worth the hard work. They look up to me much better than before, and are a lot more respectful of each other's boundaries. Even as I'm typing this, I had to HEY! them once, because Chansey got nipped a bit too hard. They're all just laying on the bed, now. lol. But I would never tell anyone my method is better than theirs. Whatever works for you and your dogs, use it!
I really didn't mean to sound like I was criticizing you! sorry that it sounded that way.
