I have had people cross the street when they see us walking.. but no one has ever really said much to me....
of course my wife says they are going across the street to avoid me, not the dog... must be afraid of my overalls and boonie hat...or is the fanny pack.

I think it's the fanny pack! I would love to say "It's not the dog you should be afraid of, it's me".
