will the pup manage okay without the tooth? That sucks that that happened.

He'll be fine w/o that tooth. If by some chance the root of the tooth is still intact they'll try to save it. But by the look the vet got at it today w/o sedation, she's pretty certain it'll have to come out.
He will be eating cooked ground beef w/scrambled egg for a few days tho while his mouth heals.
