My pitx is sometimes afraid if the thunder is REALLY loud. My bassettx couldn't care less! I wipe Hunter (the pitx) down with a dryer fabric softener sheet when the storm starts coming in. It's supposed to get rid of the static electricity. It seems to work. He's not as bad as he used to be before I started doing that. Before he would want to be in my lap at the first sign of a hard wind!
My dogs go into the hallway with us and bunches of pillows, blankets, and a couple of mattresses from sleeper sofas.
I know it's hard, but the calmer you are, the calmer your dog will be!
We're in for some bad stuff here today too. I would not be in a second floor anything in a tornado! If your sister can't or won't go to a first floor building, the safest place is in an interior room with no outside walls. Sounds like her closet would be the best place.
We're supposed to get some nasty stuff here today too. Good luck and try to stay calm.
Oh, just in case you don't know, don't "baby" your dog when he's scared. Just try to act normal.
