Episode of Roscoe/Akita Dog Whisperer
I know there are haters of mr. Millan but I watch it even though i dont agree with him on a few things. Last night I watched an episode that drove me nuts. It probably was a repeat, I dont know, I dvr it.
So this akita was like 2 and half years old, wouldnt take to a leash being on him, never walked outside of the home, lived outside on concrete in a dog house. The owner got him at 6 months old and never had taken him to the vet because it was impossible to put a leash on him.
Ok so this is what pissed me off first of all. This akita was walking very funny, like his back legs were limp and then picking them off the ground in a prancing type of way. It looked very strange. Before taking the dog to the vet for a first check up, Cesar brings the dog to his compound to swim him. I really think a vet check was in order first, before exposing his dogs to a possible disease. Cesar mentioned that the dog may have had parvo or distemper before and that is why he walks wobbly, but dont you think the dog would have been dead if it never had seen a vet before?
Ok second thing that pissed me off. When cesar finally got a leash on the dog, he should have walked him around in his own territory before taking him outside the gates. While he managed to get him out the gates, by dragging him. I think that the whole process would have been smoother had he not been in a hurry. Normally cesar takes the time to let a dog get used to something before moving forward, but in this episode, it seemed like he was in a hurry.
So basically this is my rant... Just wondering if anyone else saw this and found it alarming?
For the record, I learn a lot about body language of dogs, keeping good positive energy as an owner from cesars show. I disagree with his leash corrections, heeling the dog, and poking it. I disagree with not using praise when praise is due. But who am I? Not the dog whisperer.
