OK. Maybe I shouldn't say hi to anyone unless I get eye contact 1st. I'm not working now and I don't get to talk to people much except when i'm out walking the dog. Most people will chit-chat a moment, so when i'm totally ignored it bothers me.

What I usually do is just smile and nod. If they respond, fine, if not, I just keep on going.
