Since its family.. I took a dog from my sister not to long ago, the dog needs somewhat of special attention (abused dog, not by her) and since she didnt really know how to treat a dog and doesnt do anything with them, no exercise and no play, the dog was getting a little nervous around people.. so I told her I'm taking the dog, dont make a big fuss out of it but you cant have dogs
He is happier now.. not completely over his traumas but fear aggression is better managed, he deals a lot better with strangers now... once he is over the fear of what a new person might do to him he just asks to be petted.

So I guess you could do something like that.. but every family is different and families are first before dogs so if it will be a huge deal.. dont even bother...
