TUNICA, MS (WMC-TV) - A north Mississippi family is demanding answers after their dog was allegedly shot and killed by a neighbor.
The family doesn't have a picture of their 6-month-old puppy Kipper, a Husky Shepherd mix. But Samuel and Skylar Snowden remember Saturday morning, when a neighbor shot and killed Kipper right in front of them and their friends..
Skylar now wears Kipper's dog collar.
"To keep a good memory of him, and I miss him," she said.
The children say they were at the pond behind their house playing, something they did almost every day with their dogs. They say Kipper and his friend Jade were playing when their neighbor shot Kipper.
"I thought he had shot my brother," said Caleb Biggart, a family friend. "My brother was standing right beside him and blood got all over him."
They ran home and told their parents.
"As soon as the bullet went through, my 6-year-old's hand was on the dog's head," said Samuel and Skylar's mother, Jodie Snowden. "I found out later from the vet that had it exited the dogs abdomen, which it almost did, it would have gone through my 6-year-old son."
Tunica County employee and volunteer firefighter Michael Wrenn shot Kipper..
"I did what I did to protect my family," he said.
Wrenn, standing with his family and his lawyer, Stan Little, didn't want to say anything else. According to Little, Wrenn claimed he was protecting his children from the dog after it had chased them earlier in the day.
"When the dog chased after the children yet again, Mike had no choice but to go outside and shoot the dog with a small 22 caliber, small caliber rifle," Little said.
Little tells a different story from the children, saying Kipper was in Wrenn's yard when he was shot.
