My 1st Pit Bull
Hey, I'm new here. Just adopted a little pit bull puppy. I'm pretty familiar with big, strong, stubborn dog breeds (hounds, German Shepherds, rottweilers), and, how to train them properly. I'm going to assume that the same methods (positive reinforecement, repetition, etc.) will work on this little guy. He already seems so smart. I was just wondering if there's anything I should know before we get started on his "schooling". Other than that, he is such an affectionate little guy, good with my 7 year old daughter, the rest of the family. His favorite game is tug-o-war. Loves to be held, heck, he loves attention of any kind, and, after only 4 days in my home, already loves to go for a ride in my truck. So, needless to say, he's a keeper.
Please feel free to leave me a message in my mailbox if you feel there's any advice you have that is important. I know I'm taking on a big responsibiilty taking in a pit bull. I also know the breed has been demonized by the media. The pits I've been around have only been superb family dogs who lived to be petted or rubbed behind the ears. I just want him to grow to be a well mannered, affectionate, family dog.
Thanks,
Zekesdad
