Not sure where your at, but I'd let him run and play to his heart's content. Like they said before, a tired pit bull is a happy pit bull. I don't know how hot it is where he'll be staying, so make sure they pay attention to the temperature. Let him out for like 30 min at a time if its hot, then bring him in doors for an hour or so to let him cool off. If he does happen to over heat, water him down, starting from the legs and working your way up. Ice packs on the inner back legs help cool them off too. I live in Texas, so heat is always something to worry about here.
