Tonight Indy got into a fight with another dog. Zola the other dog, belongs to a friend of mine, she is a pit bull mix, and I had taken Indy over to their house a few times now, so she and Zola could play in the backyard. Now let me say this first, every time the dogs were together, they were strictly supervised. Zola and Indy got a long really really well. And Indy has always gotten along well with other dogs, she grew up with my step-mom's labradoodle Jesse, and has been around other dogs, with out a problem. Zola as well. Tonight, we went over, did our on leash intro for awhile, then let them loose to run in the yard. They played for awhile, then took them in to have some water and to rest for a bit. After awhile of them playing inside they started getting a little snippy at each other so they were separated for awhile. While we were getting them to go outside again, they just flew at each other, maybe over the water bowl, who knows. At any rate in all of 3 seconds there was a dog fight in front of us. We were able to break it up quickly, my boyfriend grabbing Indy and myself getting Zola...and my breakstick with the other hand. It happened in a matter of seconds. And was over in about as much time. Thank god we are strict about supervising our dogs, and THANK GOD I had my breakstick on me, even though I didn't have to use it, I'm glad it was there. I know I should have known better than to put them back together after them getting alittle snappy. But, what happened, happened, and Indy has a few bite wounds on her, Zola made it out with out a mark on her. It could have been a lot worse. My point is, Indy was always good with other dogs until today, but I always knew she could "turn on" at anytime, and from now on, my guard will always be up even more than it was with her if she is ever around another dog.
