I find that if you want a really long leash 20 or 30 ft long a horse lunge line works great. it is really strong and can take anything a pit bull can dish out without breaking. After all it has to handle a 1500 lb horse.
You can get them at any tack shop or feed store. Tractor Supply have them and they are very reasonably priced.
