Played 18 holes on the Medal course today, overcast, +15mph winds
finished with an 88, :0( 40 putts and 1 penalty drop
will be playing off grass next weekend though, goodbye winter mats :0)

only real highlight today was the 16th hole, its 330yds but probably playing 350 with the wind against. I pulled a horrible tee-shot 150yds left past the trees and found myself on the fringe of the fairway on the 4th. Luckily because of wind damage the tree line has been extensively thinned and completely removed in places. I find my ball on a slight downhill lie, ball about 3in below my feet, I'm thinking its 210yds over a bunker to the front edge of the green, bit of space to the left of the bunker and the pin is sitting in the back right corner. I have a substantial gap in the trees to go for it and pull my 3w out of the bag, i don't mind going for things like this when i'm out playing. I punch the 3w low about 15-20m at its highest point with a slight fade and it drops on the back right corner and sticks on the green :0). This leaves me with a +20ft putt across the green, which i proceed to sink, the only one putt of my round!!!

obviously feeling smug as a ..... i'm standing on the 17th tee waiting to play. i turn to watch the 3-ball playing up the 16th behind me, the green is now 60-70 yards to my left. 1st guy hooks and duffs his shot and bounds towards me. I casually step to my left and the ball trundles to rest on my tee. i'm in the way for the guys next shot so i go to pick up my bag and move it on the tee. as i lift it and turn i see the 2nd guys ball coming right at me between chest and waist height. somehow i manage to move me and the bag in a bodyswerve and the ball whistles past my left side and comes to rest 30yds past the tee.
whew .... lesson learned, no post birdie smugness for me again !!!
