The Indian much more than most golfers would like to believe. New drivers do not make you hit it farther, yet I still buy a new one every year!! Very few golfers have been fit for all clubs, including their putters, properly. My guess is most on this board have been fit, but we are a select group!

Driver/wood and shaft technology have advanced a great deal, but I still see most golfers playing too little loft with too stiff of a shaft. Being fit properly for loft and lie are important as well, but iron technology has advanced very little since the Ping Eye 2's. I have a lot of buddies that get new irons every few years but have never been fit properly and have certainly never owned a putter that fit them.
