Ok, I'm down. My club championship is THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY!!!
Corydon Golf Club, in Corydon, Iowa
2355 yards, par 31, 9 holes
Tees: there's only one set, they'll probably be set back a couple of yards
This course does not have slope or course ratings
Flighting occurs after 18 holes on Saturday.
This is a much tougher course than most people give it credit for. Par 3 yardages are, in order of length, 95, 190, 220, 225, 225. Our greens are very small, so you only get on the green by 'rolling the ball' up the fairway. But there is a par 4 that's only 255 yards, which is very driveable. The big hitters can also reach the 292 yard par 4. From what I've been hearing based on the projected field, +5 over 36 holes should win, +10 might win. It's going to take some work on my part. Lately I've been shooting +4 to +5 for an average 9 holes, and I've been leaving a lot of putts out there. Since the course is heavily dependent on short games and getting the up and down, most of my practice this week will be pitching from my usual landing areas on the par 3s, and then putting. Three of the greens are pretty flat, so I'll only be working on getting my feel on the other 6 sloped greens.
My secondary goal is to win. Since that simply may not happen, I'd settle for top 3 in the championship flight. My primary goal is to just have fun.
