Welcome to the SEC by the way, not at your skill level, but putting was one thing that I did fairly well with from the start. I know just what you mean about the "dead club bag" I usually keep them around to put together loner bags for friends, or family visiting.

Last weekend I loaned out a bag to my friend in from out of town, and about half way through the round I borrowed his (mine) putter and something clicked and sank a 12 footer, and next hole another 10 footer both center cup. Now tomorrow I am going to put it in the bag and commit to it for 18 holes and see how I do. Thing is they differ greatly in how they are weighted, my gamer Odyssey XG #7 vs. Odyssey white hot Tour #2
