Getting the ball in play off the tee is my achilles heel. I need a "go to" shot that can consistently put the ball out 200 yards or so on narrowish tee shots without a needed carry. Today I went to my local prictice facility and practiced hitting the stinger using 5 iron, 3 wood, 4 hybrid, and even driver. I was having great success. I am keeping my excitement reserved though because I am a total range player; I can hit 90% near perfect shots on the range only to suck on the course.

Do any of you use the stinger as a go to shot on firm fairways? How to you play it?
In HS when I carried a 2 iron, I hit this shot a ton off the tee. Used to kill it, and used it sometimes as a go-to on par 5's to get it up close.

Ball in the middle of the stance, hit it like any knockdown with a shallow attack, and I always felt like I was bowing my left wrist...almost like I wanted to hit the ball on the upswing a tad to give it as much top spin as possible with my club "rolling off the top of the ball". You don't actually want to hit it on the upswing obviously, that was just my mental feeling. I always tried to minimize any hand action through the impact zone and really extended flat (low to the ground) down the line as far as I could.
