If it is really starting straight and not a little left or right of the target then it's more likely a square club face and an outside in club path.

This is exactly why you always and I can't emphasize always enough, you will ALWAYS have better results if your club face is aimed at the target - regardless of your swing path. Same with any club, putter to driver.
