Hanks, Kmac, my wife and I played on a sim last winter. We played "Teeth of the Dog", a tough course from the Domincan Republic from the tips, well over 7000 yards if I remember. We ran out of time after about 16 holes and I think I was at -3 or so.

So obviously its not realistic. At the same time, Kmac and Hanks could not get the hang of this and their scores were much higher than they would normally be in real life. So I think its really only a good way to practice making good swings. The short game and putting is pretty unrealistic in my opinion.
