I'm "mentoring" three new golfers right now. Two of them are understanding of the "upspoken rules" of golf. Another one is very disrespectful (in golf terms). He drives the cart past balls, talks though people's swing, and even picks up other people's balls.

I forgot who taught me the game, but usually it comes from experience and playing the game. It does help to have an experienced golfer teach the basics. Learning through experience alone on the course isn't fun and often times embarrassing.
