Perseverance-Dedication-Stupidity, A Fine Line?
As several of you know on THP, I did something to my back this week that completely put me out of commission for a while, to the point that I couldn't even put my shoes/socks on, lol. Hurt like a gunshot from my right hip to center of the lower back. I went to the chiropractor finally and he worked me over pretty well, I came out feeling worst than I went in.
Well, last night was men's league and I just couldn't let my team down, so I decided to play through it and man was it a good idea, or so I thought. My range of motion is about half the norm and anything off the deck was torture, but I actually played well. My drives and anything off a tee was almost as long as before and much straighter, haha, but off the deck I lost a lot of distance. Putting and chipping was as strong as ever, so beyond some pain, my mid game was all that really took a hit.
In my pre-game nine I shot a 42 believe it or not and after the round Liz showed up with my pain pill, muscle relaxer and some dinner, haha. She knew I would need it and just showed up, (I've been blessed with much more than I deserve).
Men's league its self didn't go quite as well, shot a 46, but I blame that on the meds kicking in and focus was a bit off, but by the end of the round I was swinging pretty smooth and feeling much better. However, all good things have a trade off as I woke a bit sore this AM. The doc just finished working me over again and I may stay away from the course for a day or two, but I can say I muscled through it last night for better or worst and my teammates.
Moral of the story: You really don't have to swing hard to hit it far and play well. While a 42/46 wasn't a great score it showed me what I could do if I felt well and didn't try to come out of my shoes on every shot!
