10,000 hours is about 5 years of "normal" 40 hour weeks. I say it's plenty of time if he's got the talent.
Golf is like anything in life. There will always be people that are "world class" and then there is the rest of us. Even with us, there are limits. Some will become 10 handicaps, some 5's and some scratch or better, but I think everyone has a limit as to how good they will become. Most will never become a single digit no matter what clubs they use, how many lessons they take or how many hours they put in. It will just never happen. We each have our limits, and the sooner some accept that fact, the better off they and their wallet will be. The Tiger's in golf are very very rare.
