I always mark my ball because I want to wipe it off before I putt. I don't put it back until it's my turn to putt. Whe it's my turn, the putt has been read and I'm ready to go other than a couple practice strokes. I putt out if it's close, but I miss way too many 2' to 4' putts to worry about saving a couple seconds on the green by just walking up and hitting it. I look those over for a second. On the other hand, I suspect tee to green I am close to JB speed.

But I take my time a little bit on the green, no doubt about it. I line up short putts, and have taken to looking at longer putts from both sides.
