i was furthest away of the other three so I went to line up my putt and putt while he was getting to his ball. The other guys in the group looked at me like I was crazy and told me that "Jim's still away!" I HATE SLOW GOLF!

I'd have said "So what's that got to do with anything?"

Pace of play has become more important to a reasonable round of golf than strictly observing "honors". I'd have informed them that our basic requirement was to maintain our place on the course, not twiddle our thumbs as we watched Jim rake the bunker. I have little patience with people like that.
