I'm surprised the course was open.
I live in the "Sandhills" of North Carolina. And the soil is almost like beach sand and drains extremely well. But based on the standing water there apparently are limits.

I have been told (but can't verify) that they have never closed our courses because they were too wet. I do know one exception where they had to close course No. 6 because the two lakes on each side of the fairway on the 10th hole flooded and you couldn't reach the 10th green (or the later holes on the back side).
