Sometimes (a few times per round), if I hit a bad drive, or miss the green entirely, or hit a fatty, I'll hit a second (or third if time allows) to prove to myself that I can do what I was intending on doing. HOWEVER, I always go back to my original ball and play that one through the hole for my official score. I rarely play out my second ball, as it would take too long, and I hate holding up people behind me.
