How do you hit a sand shot on the sim?

There is a section on the floor of "sand" - it's similar to the rough - fake grass, but is much softer and cream colored. Your ball sinks into it when you put it on there. It's the least realistic shot on the sim though - we play it more like a chip. The only difference is that we don't ground our clubs.
