That's they way it should be done.Not everyone has the flexibility to get into all the sound positions. You should be taught how to get close to what works and to be able to make it repeatable. Being repeatable is the most important piece of the golf swing..

Prime examples are Freddy,Jim Furyk ,Kenny Perry.All three have completely different swings,but they all work for them.They are repeatable and they are able to obtain many of the proper positions to hit it long and as straight as possible
I guess you mean they have different swings from what most would consider standard. Those 3 make similar moves.
