According to Wiki, from 1959-1972:

South Vietnamese civilian dead: 1,581,000*
Cambodian civilian dead: ~700,000*
North Vietnamese civilian dead: ~2,000,000
Laotian civilian dead: ~50,000*

While our carpet bombing definitely killed civilians, if you talk to guys that were there, they'll tell you that the enemy was often civilians, children included and it was kill or be killed.

Thanks. It was a rhetorical question I asked, knowing the numbers, to demonstrate the utter historical pig-ignorance on the part of the individual I was responding to.
