1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):
• Comfort - 8
• Versatility (How the interior adapts to people, luggage, weather conditions, etc) - 6
• Clean ability (How easy is it to maintain clean? - 5
• Space Efficiency (How practical & Useable the space available is) - 6
• Ergonomics (How user friendly the interior is laid out) - 7
• Insulation (Keeping the interior isolated from noise and temperature extremes) - 7
• Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) - 6
2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.
No. Australia, as you will know, has fine crappy dust. This just sifts its way into the car, even off-road vehicles (Toyota Prado) have poor seals that do not prevent a lot of dust. In saying that, many cars do have great seals. Interios as a whole need to be more practicile, the Commodore and Aurion/Camry IIRC do not have a 60/40 folding back seat?
3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)
No. Takes away the look of the car. I do however use aftermarket products to keep the interior looking as good as possible for as long as possible (Armall). I do use floor mats and boot scruff plates, cargo nets in the back for shopping etc.
4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?
Ergernomics. Some cars are shocking, it's a danger to drive a car with buttons all over the place that you have to look for. We need more practicle interiors, we don't need a revolution, we just need our cars to be more like cars such as the Honda Jazz/Fit. It's genious.
5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?
Once again, car cleaning products. Plastic protectors for dash and doors, leather protecter for gear lever and steering wheel, cloth cleaner for seating and door infils, carpet cleaner for carpet, air freshener etc.
6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?
Very easy. It only takes me 1/2 an hour a week to keep my car looking tops. Some cars are hard to clean though.
7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?
Often. The car is vacummed/cleaned as soon as we come back from places like this.
8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)
No. My car interior is always spotless, no rubbish or crap lying around. I am carefull not to put any extra dirt inside after a clean, but if I go to the beach I do not hesitate.
9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?
No. What's the point of a car if you can't drive it, or park it, whever you like (providing it suits the car, ie my Fiesta does NOT go offroad into mud puddles, it's not 4WD).
10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.
• Comfort - 2 (was not a priority with my current Fiesta, is my top priority now)
• Versatility -3
• Space Efficiency - 5
• Clean Ability - 7 (I can clean my car, so not an issue, infact I enjoy cleaning my car)
• Ergonomics -4
• Insulation - 6 (not a major issue, but loud can be too loud)
• Feel - 1 (has to look decent, feel decent)
