So I guess there's a limit to the offensiveness of 9/11 videos in the "offensive 9/11 video thread"?
This is not about right or wrong, but about where you put the line in a thread thatīs `all wrong`, which is naturally a gray area.
I think a lot of people would find the Sega Rally video at least as offensive as the Tom Petty one, because the Sega Rally one is clearly a (poor) attempt to make people laugh. With the Tom Petty one I never had the feeling that the maker intended to make people laugh. Of course i think it is very shocking, we all agree on that. And it's even disrespectful. (that's why i posted it here, look at the title of this thread).
The whole art discussion is another thing. Before we had photography and recordable music, violent historic events and important deaths were depicted by great painters in an overly dramatized way, trying to make them as shocking and offensive as thought possible in that time. Surely you think itīs wrong to look at those paintings too, and those painters are sick and twisted? I bet a lot of people in that time would have agreed with you. Yet, now we all think it is art, because those are the only pictures strong enough to still make us feel some of the horror. Those paintings are generally considered beautiful...
In a thread which is about offensive videos, and where people know what they can expect when they click a link, I myself would expect the line to be where legal ends, and illegal starts.
Seeing a 1000 people die at the same time in a building from 3000ft is easier to swallow than seeing one person drop to death from 300ft? Letīs hope none of us ever have to make that choice
Anyway, i guess weīll always disagree on some things, but that does that make me `insensitive` and `ignorant`? or am i just not as sensitive to certain things as you, and do i draw the line in a different part of the gray area?
