part two
4. Hey Sony! Not Everybody is as Rich as You!
For those of you that haven't heard, the PS3 with its lack of games, movies, and design will be one powerful beast! At E3 2005, Sony spilled the beans on EVERYTHING leaving no surprises for next year. Meanwhile Nintendo showed only the bare necessities and still managed to generate THRONZ of hype! Sony showed off everything because they thought they had to compete with everything that Microsoft did and thought that in order for them to win the next-gen console wars, they HAD to match everything that Microsoft cranked out even though Microsoft is launching their console MONTHS before Sony!!! However, in addition to the revelation that PS3 is going to be the most powerful console EVER, it was also revealed that it will cost about $500!!!! Newsflash Sony! Not everybody is as rich as you! After reading the first three sections of this article, I think that this last fact is enough to change your mind about buying the PS3. I know only one person who still wants to buy one and personally, I wouldn't want to spend $500 for a video game console. For those of you that would, you have to find yourselves a sport ^_^.
5. The Future of Sony, Microsoft, and the World at Large
Sony is doomed: Their lack of games, movies, and design will crush them. Let me paint a picture for you:
March, 2006. The Xbox 360 is selling 10 million units strong. The PS3 is coming out tomorrow! Sony finatics all over the world plan on buying one....Launch day. Several thousand units are sold for $500 and people are buying games for $60. The game selection is nothing stupendous. They get home. They plug in their new wafflemaker ^_^. It looks out of place with the rest of their home. They play the games. The graphics are stupendous though the controllers are very awkward. Many Sony fans though refuse to buy the console due to its price. They will wait for the price to lower later in the year.
April, 2006. All 3 consoles have been unleashed. The Revolution is taking stake not from the Xbox 360 buyers but from the Sony fans and classic gamers. People who never played games before are joining the fun on Nintendo's new console. Super Smash Bros Online is competing furiously with Halo 3 and is putting up a great fight. Meanwhile, the PS3 is falling behind. Many of the Sony fans who are waiting for a price drop are saying 'the heck with it' and buying an Xbox 360 or a Revolution. More and more games are coming to Nintendo and Microsoft while more and more developers are leaving Sony and giving them less to fall back on. Sony was the first against the wall when the Revolution came ^_^. However, Sony continues to work on their planned PS4 which should be able to crush the others next generation.
December, 2006. The holidays have arrived. Sony's market share continues to dwindle being replaced by Microsoft in first and Nintendo in second. Hollywood has officially accepted the HD-DVD as the new standard of media leading to a massive price raise on Blu-Ray disks which Sony is forced to continue production of. The last big developers now leave Sony due to their even higher development costs and go instead to Nintendo and Microsoft. Sony tries to lower development costs and console prices to $400 but it is too late: They have lost the market all together. PS3s are stowed away by the thousands in warehouses yet still Sony refuses to give up.
March, 2007: The financial giant known as Sony is all but defeated: Only a year after their console's release, they have already lowered their price $150 down to $350 to try to attract developers and consumers but they are happy where they are: Playing games on the Nintendo Revolution and the Microsoft Xbox 360. Both consoles are going strong, especially Nintendo who has been able to get back several developers lost in the N64 era such as Square Enix. Key franchises such as Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, and Mario have all been released on the Revolution. Sony is living in a dilusion that their console is still a key player. They are in the same position that the N64 was in back in '96. However, Sony is unable to fall back on first-party titles. Finally, in May 2007, Sony stops development of PS3s and their entire gaming market collapses under them. The PSP long ago fell to the innovation of the Nintendo DS and now Nintendo is talking about the successor to the DS/GBA. All plans for a PSP2 and a PS4 have been trashed. The demise of Sony is complete. Microsoft and Nintendo lead the industry strong and profitable.
May, 2011: Microsoft and Nintendo reveal their next consoles at E3. Sony attempts to recover from large debts and a massive financial crisis. Microsoft, however, is uncredibly unstable: Their financial structure has become an upside-down pyramid with Halo at the bottom. Bungie Entertainment now has grown since the days of the original Xbox and looks to expand its horizons: It now becomes an independant third party leaving Microsoft's pyramid to collapse as they move to become cross-platform.
2012: Nintendo and Microsoft release their consoles. Both are very profitable. Microsoft goes into the portable market. The Xbox Pocket is unleashed to compete with Nintendo's handhelds. It meets the fate of the PSP.
2017: Microsoft and Nintendo once again reveal new consoles but Bungie has now fully transfered to Nintendo. Microsoft now has no legs to stand on and is ready to collapse. Sega, now financially stable once more, unveils their first console in 16 years. Microsoft fans flock to Nintendo and many go to Sega as well.
2018: Microsoft collapses its gaming division. Longhorn is released ^_^. Sega and Nintendo duke it out like old times in the gaming industry and all is right with the world :-).
All of this is very plausible to happen and I truly believe that it will. I hope that you enjoyed my article. Bye!
