My credibility is fine, I simply do not agree that to be labled as "the first" one must be a "hit maker", especially considering how bad pop music sucks.
The facts are other bands certainly laid the trail long before their pop culture equivalents arrived on the scene.

Let me put this in a perspective you might understand. The category "Alternative Rock" did not exist until REM. No one else was labeling themselves or being labeled by someone else. REM was the 1st. Sure, there have been people playing in alternative tune ranges before them... but they were the first to actually make it sound good, where people liked them and the term spread because of them.

What you seem to be saying is, because the Kinks wrote the 1st punk songs, in the 60's, they are the 1st punk band... when in reality, they just have a couple of punk songs and are in no way a punk band.

Categories are for boring people anyway though.

Is this where you pull an acupuncture and say something you think sounds lofty when in reality it is asinine? The brain categorizes for a reason. Or did you not just say all pop music sucks?
