I have a Ford Escort and a 2 year old. I am happy we are no longer driving the thing. Way too small, and exterior wise it is bigger than that Polo.
I just hope that you do not end up wishing that you had a larger car.
As far as the stroller fitting, yes it will fit, but that is about all that you can get into the trunk of the escort if the stoller is back there.
Its really only bad for the first 1yr~2yr depending on how fast your kid develops, but if your going to be making a 2nd kid, your totally going to want bigger.

We upgraded to a Buick LeSabre and we still want higher off the ground. Gotta wait till more income though because we already have the Jeep that will fix that, but it gets 14mpg.
