The main advantage the iPhone has for me are the apps (there are far more available) and the higher res screen (meaning I can fit more of a web page on the screen without having to zoom in and scroll around).

But if you are set on getting an Android, the best available ATM are probably:
HTC Desire - If you want a cheaper phone and don't like a 4.3inch screen
HTC Desire HD - Has a bigger 4.3inch screen
HTC Desire Z - If you want a keyboard and a touch screen

The Samsung Galaxy is good too and has a 4.3inch screen, but everyone I know with one complains about battery life.
