I have never met anyone who has a backup videographer for a wedding (or a backup anything for that matter) and the reason for that is simple; Anything / person worth having / using / booking for anything will be booked up months in advance.

Quite! Besides, it's really the responsability or the person contracted to do the work to arrange cover if THEY can't meet their obligations, personally
As for the equipment, that's also the responsability of the contractor!
