Definitely the smokers fault getting addicted to nicotine in the first place but have a little think about when you're really hungry, then you can't eat, then you're still really hungry but still you can't eat, try that for a week or so and that's how hard it is to stop smoking, I quit 6 years ago from 40 a day.

I can't believe that any government can allow the sale of cigarettes, they have been proven to kill you, they cause massive heath problems, they are more addictive than heroin or crack, oh wait, they bring in massive revenues in tax, hmmmmm, i wonder.
I smoked for 14 or so years, tried many things to quit and of course everything failed. I actually had to start on smokeless tobacco (Skoal, Copenhagen) to quit smokes. It was much easier to quit the chew. Been tobacco free for over 5 years now. And zero desire for a cig, I find it repulsive now [thumbup]
good for you guys~[thumbup] i'm not denying that it's extremely addictive and hard to quit. I'm mostly saying though, that when you're in your 30s with kids, it's ignorant and irresponsible to be smoking a pack a day. Simple as that. The excuse he gives is, "well, I don't want to live to be old and decrepit....ect..ect.." so yeah,, in his mind @ 39 he doesn't want to live to 80, but he's smoked 1 and 1/2 packs a day since high school.......so, yeah, he may not have to suffer being 80, but his kids will probably get to witness his organs being eaten away by cancer when he's 55.[rolleyes] He's a good guy, I just hate watching it because it's so ignorant and avoidable. I've mentioned he ought to get doctor's help to quit ie:nic patch, whatever it takes.... and he is starting to consider it. It's as much 30 years of habit as it is physical addiction. That's gotta be hard to break. The person who mentioned going to skoal/copenhagen instead of cigs, yeah, that's not ideal, but it's a profoundly better alternative to smoking.

I have absolutely no problem with someone smoking socially, or like to smoke a cig or two when they drink. It's really hard for people to smoke in moderation, though. I have a few freinds that do. ie: less than a pack a month or something.....or they occasionally borrow smokes when they drink. Anyways, I'm not for making tobacco illegal or anything like that. I, personally, just think a heavy smoking habit is just really ignorant knowing what we know.

also, Pickle, moderate alcohol use is no where near as bad for you as smoking. In fact, it actually has health benefits. Heavy abuse of either alcohol or smoking....it's hard to pick which is worse..... do you want you're liver to rot away or your lungs? tough call
