tired of roadrunner and their BS!
I have had time warner road runner internet for about 7 years now, and have always been happy with it. I have always gotten speeds higher than what was advertised up until about 4 months ago. about a year ago I upgraded to their 10M connection with turbo boost or whatever they call their thing that provides a short time boost in speed when needed. When I first got the 10M connection I would average around 17M on most speed tests and would download speeds of around 2mbps from a good server. recently I am getting around 4M on download tests and rarely see downloads go over 400 KB/s.
I finally got fed up after months of things not getting better and called time warner last night to complain. after getting bounced around from person to person about 4 times and being on hold for a total of about an hour. I get a response of there is a possible outage reported in my area with no estimated time frame for being fixed. big help.
So then I go online and do their live tech support chat. after my problem being escalated to a higher level tech a few times I have another person tell me that there may be an outage in my area, and give it a few days and see if it clears up. I remind them that this problem has been going on for about 4 months now and is occasionally so bad that netflix kicks me off with a message saying my internet connection is not sufficient to stream movies, and vids on youtube and hulu are unwatchable due to constant pauses. at this point I get the same response from the phone call about possible outage with no estimated time frame, where not 3 minutes before it was wait a few days and it should clear up.
I finally called them today and spent about 45 minutes on hold and dropped my speed down to the 7M connection. Now I am getting speeds ranging from 5M to 9M on speedtest and average downloads on large files is around 600KB/s. odd that I drop a tier in speed and suddenly I am getting almost what I was paying for beforehand. I went ahead and agreed to their price lock 2 year contract thing, since they gave me a bundle price with dropped it another $25 under what I would have been paying for the 7M connection and almost $40 less than the 10M with turbo connection. the early termination fee is $100 max and decreases every month, and I figure there is nothing else in my area that currently provides better cable or internet than them so why not lock in for 2 years. Saving almost $40 a month makes it worth it if I decide to cancel. And the only thing I can see changing for would be Fios and from what I can make out they have no plans to bring that to my area any time in the near future.
Sorry about the long rant, I just feel like I am getting screwed by them because they know there is nothing else better in my area.
