Yeah honestly I can't fully agree with the OP. Having worked for At&t and TDS, I know that pretty much all the companies are the same. Depending on the capacity in the area, the age of your lines, the condition of your lines, your inside wiring, and the weather, you're going to get either good service, bad service, or terrible service. It's so random that you can't really blame the entire company for it. I had Time Warner in Milwaukee several times and had absolutely outstanding 25 Meg service. On the contrary, I've had horrible service from TDS, Charter, etc, and I've heard horror stories on just about all sides of the fence.
If you're service is bad, pester the support until they get a tech out there to have a looksee. Some will do a crappy job but eventually your case files will start adding up and the LFOs will start using their HTTs to actually take a good look at your line and see where the problems are. On your part, clean up any messy wiring, make sure all your coax is RG-6 Quad Shielded (unless you're not using coax), and you could even try buying a third party cable modem (I've heard the $75 Linksys model is quite good). Unfortunately with cable you also have the issue of broadband sharing, so it may just be that more people in your neighborhood / complex all have cable and now your service is going to suck teh balls as a result.
Good Luck Mate
