It's all about the clicks...

To use the search toolbar, you first have to click to lauch the browser, then click in the search bar before you can start to type.

If you have Google as your homepage however, you simply click once to open the browser, then you can start typing immediately, cutting the number of clicks required by a huge 50%!

That's assuming you don't already have a browser open... and what's the likelihood of that happening
