your perception that you have been given about the speed of the internet thru the use of cable would jade your answer to believing that the 56k is actually slower than you remember.

ie, its nearly impossible unless you had some visual evidence to compare. memory would be very construed.

When I was on 56k, I usually downloaded files around 3-4kbps with my 56k v.92 modem. I almost died of shock one time when I hit 8kbps download. It would be interesting to see if download speeds over a 56k modem would be any faster now.
