Where did I forget taxes? I said US$40,000pa gross would not give them a net income of US$3,000pcm.

Well, along with the previous posts it wasn't very clear, but whatever.

Knowing that you make 6 figures gives me more confidence that I will have a high paying job in the future.

If you have useful skills that aren't overly common and work hard, you might. Otherwise, inflation might eventually bring your salary to 6 figures with little effort on your part.
