50% screen brightness, balanced mode (sleep after 40mins, turn screen off after 15 mins, hdd stays on all the time), the GPU (Intel x4500MHD) does all the video decoding either via Flash (10.1 beta) or via DXVA (local files).

That could verywell be the difference.

When I run my aspire at performance settings, I get ~3 hours, on power saving mode, like ~5 hours. This on just the regular battery.
