Well, don't let that make your decision. Ammo sells for a good price. You could probably sell that ammo at gunbrokers.com and then use that money for a new rifle. Now if you just like that caliber, that's cool too. Mini-14's seem pretty good to me. Can you get an AR15?

These are just bullets, not live ammo. I can reload .223 ammo for a pretty good price. The caliber is nice too. AR-15's are a little pricey here, and there are only a handful that are california legal. They either have a fixed magazine, or do not have a pistol grip.
